Hatters Fall Short in Battle with Ole Miss

Perkins and Hutto combine on a six-hitter

DeLand, Fla. -- In a match-up of two 10-win teams, Ole Miss scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth inning and held on to defeat Stetson 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

The loss snapped Stetson's eight-game win streak and dropped the Hatters to 10-2 on the season.

The Rebels (11-2) entered the contest batting .368 as a team and averaging better than nine-runs per-game. However, Tori Perkins and Brooke Hutto combined to hold Ole Miss to just two earned runs and six hits.  Perkins struck out three in her four-plus innings of work, and Hutto retired eight of the nine batters she faced.

Blake Crews threw out a runner attempting to steal second in the top of the sixth.

Kelsey Waters, Jazz Vasquez, and Linda Ross each recorded hits for the Hatters.

"We hit the ball better than the box score indicates; we just hit a lot of them right at them," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "The girls didn't give up and fought right to the end.  (The Rebels) are a great ball team and certainly a top 25 contender.  Overall, I am very pleased."

Stetson will look to bounce back against 23rd-ranked USF at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
