Sagerer, Chambers Earn ASUN Weekly Awards

Duo Help Stetson Clinch ASUN No. 1 Seed

After helping lead the Stetson women's basketball team to its first-ever ASUN regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, juniors Sarah Sagerer and Brittney Chambers have been respectively named the ASUN Player and Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Sagerer earns her third Player of the Week award this season after averaging 16.0 points and 14.0 rebounds in two Stetson victories.  She scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Monday's win at USC Upstate. She then scored 12 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end, in Stetson's ASUN clinching overtime win at FGCU Saturday. Her 18 rebounds tied a career-high, and she also recorded two blocks while playing 41 minutes.

For the week, Sagerer shot 52 percent from the floor and 100 percent (6-for-6) from the free throw line. She now has 90 blocks on the season, seventh-most in the NCAA.

Chambers earns her third Newcomer of the Week award and her second in a row after averaging 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.  She hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points in Monday's win at USC Upstate, then tallied 18 points, draining the critical go-ahead basket in overtime, in Stetson's win at FGCU Saturday.

"That shot was huge.  It was the shot of the game," head coach Lynn Bria said about Chambers' overtime basket on Saturday.  "It put us up by two and broke the tie.  I thought she was the difference in the game ... and I thought Sarah had a great game.  Those rebounds were huge."

Winners of 13 games in a row, top-seeded Stetson (24-5) will host No. 8 seed USC Upstate (9-20) in the ASUN quarterfinal round Friday night.  Tip-off at the Edmunds Center is at 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3 and WSBB radio.

Notes: Sagerer was also named ASUN Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness ... In the latest ESPN bracketology by Charlie Creme, Stetson is predicted to be a 14 seed at College Station, Texas.
