Hatters Begin Second Half of ASUN Play at UNF

Defensive play fueling six-game win streak

Fresh off a dramatic 65-49 ASUN road win at Jacksonville on Thursday, the Stetson Hatters return to the hardwood Saturday afternoon to face the North Florida Ospreys.  Tip-off at UNF Arena is set for 1 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3 and WSBB radio.

If it feels like the Hatters (17-5, 6-1) just played the Ospreys (8-14, 1-6), it is because they did.  Last Saturday, Stetson defeated UNF 66-44 at the Edmunds Center behind 17 points from Breana Bey.

The Hatters then won their sixth game in a row Thursday night to take over sole possession of second place in the ASUN. Brianti Saunders hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points, including the 1800th point of her career, while Sarah Sagerer collected 15 points, nine rebounds, and eight blocked shots.

Now having completed the first round of ASUN play. the Hatters begin the back half of their conference schedule on Saturday.

Stetson's defense has been nearly impenetrable of late as each of the last three opponents have been held below 50 points.  If the Hatters can hold UNF below the half century mark once again, it would be the first such four-game stretch in school history.

Stetson leads the all-time series 15-8 over UNF, having won the last seven head-to-head meetings.  After Saturday's contest, the Hatters will play their next three games at home.

In addition to the live broadcasts, live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed (@StetsonWBB), and the HatCheck text messaging system will provide in-game updates as well.

22-Game Starts
At 17-5, Stetson has tied for its best 22-game start in school history.  The Hatters were also 17-5 in 2000-01, 2011-12, and 2013-14.

The Great Wall of Austria
Sarah Sagerer has now blocked 77 shots this season.  That total ranks second in the NCAA and is the second-highest single-season total in school history.  Amber Porter holds the record with 129 blocks in 2014-15.

1st Quarter Success
Stetson is outscoring its opponents by 104 points in first quarters this year (402-298). Stetson has led after the first quarter in all seven ASUN games, and in 16 of the team's 22 games this year (the Hatters are 14-2 in those games).  Stetson has not trailed after the first quarter since Tennessee State led 17-16 after one on Dec. 20.

Free Throw Shooting
As of Friday, the Hatters (.8122) have a slight edge over South Dakota (.8119) for the NCAA lead in team free throw percentage. Brianti Saunders is second in the NCAA among all individuals at .931.  The Hatters also boast four of the top five free throw shooters in the ASUN Conference.

Major Defensive Effort
Stetson has held its opponent to 13 points or less in 10 of the last 12 quarters.

Milestones Approaching
Brianti Saunders needs nine points to become Stetson basketball's all-time leading scorer (men or women). Kerry Blackshear holds the record with 1,826 points from 1992-96.
