First-Place Hatters Host Jacksonville Wednesday

For the second time in seven days, the Stetson Hatters and Jacksonville Dolphins will square-off on the hardwood Wednesday, this time at the Edmunds Center in a key ASUN Conference showdown.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3 and WSBB radio.

The Hatters (18-5, 7-1 ASUN) enter the game on a seven-game win streak and tied for first place in the league standings.  The Dolphins (17-6, 6-2) are just a game back after defeating FGCU 73-65 Saturday in Jacksonville.

Stetson's defense has been stifling opponents of late.  For the first time in school history, the Hatters have held opponents to under 50 points in four straight games.  That includes last Thursday's 65-49 win against the Dolphins, where junior forward Sarah Sagerer tied a school record with eight blocked shots. She was named ASUN Player of the Week Monday.

Brianti Saunders hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the previous meeting with JU.  She ranks second in the ASUN in scoring (16.3 ppg) and third in the NCAA in free throw pct. (.931).

Rebounding will once again be a primary area of focus for the Hatters.  In last week's meeting, the Dolphins collected 22 offensive rebounds which led to 22 second-chance points.  Overall, the Hatters have outrebounded seven of their eight ASUN opponents this year.

Stetson leads the all-time series 25-14 over JU, having won 13 of the previous 14 meetings.

Tickets start at $7.00 for general admission and can be purchased online (GoHatters.com/tix) or the Hatter Ticket Office.  Stetson students, faculty and staff are free with a valid I.D.

In addition to the live broadcasts, live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed (@StetsonWBB), and the HatCheck text messaging system will provide in-game updates as well.

23-Game Starts
At 18-5, Stetson has tied its best 23-game start in school history.  The Hatters were also 18-5 in 2000-01, 2011-12, and 2013-14.

The Great Wall of Austria
Sarah Sagerer has now blocked 77 shots this season.  That total ranks fourth in the NCAA and is the second-highest single-season total in school history.  Amber Porter holds the record with 129 blocks in 2014-15.

1st Quarter Success
Stetson is outscoring its opponents by 117 points in first quarters this year (418-301). Stetson has led after the first quarter in all eight ASUN games, and in 17 of the team's 23 games this year (the Hatters are 15-2 in those games). Stetson has not trailed after the first quarter since Tennessee State led 17-16 after one on Dec. 20.

Major Milestone
With her 12 points at UNF, senior Brianti Saunders surpassed Stetson men's basketball alumni Kerry Blackshear to become the all-time leading scorer in Stetson basketball history.  Saunders now has 1,830 career points - eighth-most in ASUN history.
