Hatters Fall to NDSU; Manhattan Game Suspended to Saturday

Power Outage Halts Play in the Sixth Inning

DeLand, Fla. -- After falling 3-1 to North Dakota State earlier in the day, Stetson's second game against Manhattan was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a power outage at Patricia Wilson Field.

In a fun show of sportsmanship, players from both teams immediately took the field together and tossed a glow-in-the-dark-football back and forth while waiting for the lights to be restored.

Eventually, the game was officially suspended and will resume at 9:15 am Saturday morning.  The Hatters lead the Jaspers 7-3.

Against North Dakota State, Stetson fell behind 3-0 after five innings before breaking through with a run in the sixth.  However, Stetson would pull no closer and the team's seven-game win streak was snapped.

Fueled by clutch hitting all season long, the Hatters were 0-for-10 against the Bison with runners in scoring position, resulting in 12 runners left on base.  Blake Crews went 3-for-4 at the plate.

The offensive returned early against Manhattan as Stetson scored five runs in the top of the first to take an early lead.  Kelsey Waters hit her fourth triple of the year and freshman Erica Corlew smashed her first career home run to highlight the frame.

Manhattan chipped away at the lead to cut it to 5-3, but Linda Ross and Tara Walding produced RBI singles in the top of the fifth give Stetson a 7-3 cushion.

Chelsea Hostetler pitched the first three innings, while Curstin Taylor pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth.  Brooke Hutto had just entered the game in the sixth prior to the power outage.
