Hatters Split With Bucknell

Jazz Vasquez Hits Her Second Home Run

DeLand, Fla. -- Jazz Vasquez hit her second home run of the year and Brooke Hutto won her 11th game in the circle as the Hatters split a doubleheader with visiting Bucknell Friday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

After scoring three runs in the first inning, the Hatters (22-7) held on for a 4-3 win in game one, but the Bison (15-5) came back to take the nightcap 5-2.

It was the final non-conference games of the season for the Hatters.

Stetson's bats were uncharacteristically silent for much of the doubleheader as the Hatters combined for just seven hits on the day.  Three of those hits were for extra bases, however.  Vasquez accounted for the only runs of game two with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Kelsey Waters hit her fifth triple of the year as part of the three-run first inning in game one.  Molly McLaughlin also doubled in game two.

Hutto went the distance in game one to improve to 11-1 on the year.  She allowed just six hits and two earned runs.  She threw 88 pitches, 62 for strikes, and got 13 ground ball outs.

Jessie TenBroeck stole three bases in game one to add to her NCAA-leading steals total (37).  Erica Corlew went 2-for-2 in game two.

Stetson will open ASUN Conference play next weekend at home against Kennesaw State.
