Tenbroeck's Big Hit Leads Hatters Past UNF on Senior Day

DeLAND—Senior Jessie Tenbroeck's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth gave Stetson a much-needed 3-2 win over North Florida, Sunday at Patricia Wilson Field.

The win snaps Stetson's 7-game losing streak and improves the Hatters to 25-16 overall and 3-9 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. UNF is now 28-21 and 7-5.

It was fitting that Tenbroeck came through in the clutch, as the Hatters honored their four outgoing seniors during pregame Senior Day festivities.

"Winning today was our only way out of the hole," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said. "The kids stayed the course and did what they needed to do. I'm not sure what this means for Jessie, but it sure means a lot to the team for her to get a big hit like that on senior day."

Trailing 2-1, Talli Sharp started Stetson's sixth-inning comeback with a one-out single and Lydia Kinney followed with a base hit of her own to put runners on first and second. After Lydia Ross lined out to the pitcher Tenbroeck doubled down the left field line, easily scoring both runners for a 3-2 lead.

Brooke Hutto (13-5) finished the complete game effort by retiring the Ospreys in order in the top seventh to secure the win.

Hutto scattered seven hits and struck out just two batters, but she did more than enough to give the Hatters a chance to win at the end.

"She did a great job," Griffin said. "She let her defense do the work and kept spinning the ball well. I'm really pleased with her performance."

Stetson opened the scoring in the third when Jazz Vazquez scored on a wild pitch. UNF tied the game in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Alex Arciola, and took a 2-1 lead in the next inning when Hutto plunked Macayla Kelley with the bases loaded.

Vazquez, Sharp and Kelsey Waters led Stetson with two hits apiece.

The Hatters next host a three-game series with FGCU, beginning 1 p.m., Saturday at Patricia Wilson Field.
