Incoming Freshman Bhatnagar Captures Two Golds at Canada Summer Games

Incoming Stetson freshman Malik Bhatnagar won a pair of gold medals in men's tennis at the recently concluded 2017 Canada Summer Game in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Representing his home province of Ontario, the Ottawa native captured the gold in the singles competition and helped Ontario win the mixed team competition.

"Congratulations to Malik for this impressive achievement," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "I particularly like the intensity and attitude he brought on the court in the finals. He was determined, aggressive, and vocal, but stayed focus all the way throughout. I cannot wait to start working with him, as the sky is the limit for Malik. He will certainly be a strong asset for us."

Bhatnagar didn't lose a set on his way to capturing gold in singles play. He dominated his opponent in the finals, winning 6-1, 6-0.

"This was probably one of my better performances in my tournament career," Bhatnagar told the Ottawa Citizen after winning the singles gold. "I played big, aggressive and I dictated the play. I was extremely focused on every point.

"I'm extremely satisfied. It was an unbelievably great experience. This is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. The atmosphere was amazing."
