Hatters Score Early and Often in 6-1 Victory

Sarah Collins and Lindsey Parent each scored twice as Stetson cruised to a 6-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the final game of the UTRGV Tournament, Saturday in Edinburg, Texas.

The Hatters (4-2-0) won their third straight contest as they launched 26 shots against the Lions (0-4-0) including 12 on-goal.

"This was a good game overall," said Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry. "We got everyone who was eligible to play significant minutes and had lots of different scorers, but I'm disappointed we lost a shutout and lost our concentration. And to be honest we missed a number of chances that we need to finish. We improved from Thursday but we are going to have to be considerably better for next week's road trip to FIU and Miami if we expect to get positive results."

Collins gave the Hatters an early lead with a goal in the ninth minute and Hailey Williams quickly followed with her first goal of the season just over a minute later for a 2-0 lead.

Parent picked up the first of her two goals in the 19th minute for a 3-0 advantage and Riana Metzger made it a 4-0 affair at halftime when she scored in the 42nd minute.

Parent wasted no time in extending Stetson's lead in the second half, scoring 41 seconds after the whistle to make it 5-0. Collins capped Stetson's scoring in the 56th minute with her second goal of the game and fifth of the year.

UAPB's Allison Herrin scored the only goal of the game for the Lions, finding the net in the 57th minute.

Allison Zaccheo had a pair of assists, while Williams, Marisa Maynes and Abbie Camargo each had one for the Hatters.

Goalkeepers Emily Plotz and Kahri Smith combined to make three saves for the Hatters.

Stetson next visits FIU, 7 p.m., Thursday in Miami.

Notes: The six goals are the most for the Hatters since an 8-0 win over South Carolina State on Oct. 4, 2015 in DeLand … Collins now has 33 goals and needs two to become Stetson's all-time career leader … this was the eighth multi-goal game for Collins, and the first for Parent ... Collins, Parent, Plotz, Florencia Baldassini and Annette Morton were named to the all-tournamenrt team ... by virture of total goals scored, Stetson was declated tournament champion.
