Hatters Shutout at NJIT

NJIT scored a pair of second half goals and kept Stetson off the board as the Highlanders handed the Hatters a 2-0 setback in ASUN Conference men's soccer action, Saturday in Hillside, N.J.

After playing a scoreless first half, NJIT (6-7, 1-3) broke the ice with a goal in the 55th minute. Victor Gomez took a pass from Andrew Nino and scored from the right side of the box as the Highlanders grabbed a 1-0 lead.

NJIT went up 2-0 in the 72nd minute. Rene White scored his ninth goal of the season off another assist from Nino. The two-goal advantage was too much for the Hatters to overcome.

The Hatters had a chance to cut the lead in half in the 81st minute with a penalty kick, but NJIT keeper Victor Pujades stopped an attempt by Erwan Colas, and the Hatters never got another shot on goal.

Stetson out-shot NJIT, 12-9, for the game and also owned a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Stetson keeper Braeden Luna made two saves.

The Hatters return to action when they open a two-game home stand as they host conference foe Jacksonville, 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17.
