Geurinckx Advances at Varner Memorial

Stetson's Vicky Geurinckx reached the semifinals of the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, which began play Friday at Rollins College in Winter Park.

Two other Hatters – Ellie Dolde and Charlotte Solli – also earned singles victories on Friday. The four-team tournament features Stetson, Rollins, Eckerd and St. Leo.

Geurinckx received a 'bye' into the quarterfinals, where she defeated Eckerd's Taylor Selby 6-1, 6-2. Dolde won her opening round match (6-2, 6-1) before falling in the quarters. Charlotte Solli won a consolation match after losing her opening round contest.

Two Stetson teams played in the doubles flight, but both duos lost their first round matches. The duo of Geurinckx and Lucie Renault received a 'bye' into Saturday's quarterfinals.

The tournament runs through Sunday.
