Late Goals Lift Dominant Hatters to ASUN Tourney Win

Freshman Lewis Scattergood scored a pair of goals to lead Stetson to a 3-1 win over North Florida in the ASUN Conference Tournament quarterfinals, Friday in Fort Myers.

With the win, sixth-seeded Hatters (7-9-1) move on to face third-seeded FGCU in the semifinals, 1 p.m., Sunday.

Stetson dominated the Ospreys (4-11-0) for 90 minutes on Friday, owning a 27-11 shot advantage which included 12 shots on-goal.

"This was a really good performance," Stetson head coach Cristian Neagu said. "It's hard to say it was our best but we looked good. We deserved to win the game, especially considering the amount of shots we had and the number of possessions in the final third. I felt like we played really well in the first half and didn't get a lot out of it. Any win in the postseason is hard to get."

After a scoreless first half in which the Hatters owned a 14-3 advantage in shots, the teams returned to the field for the second half and were greeted by torrential rains and high winds. But the Hatters put the conditions aside and eventually regained control.

Scattergood scored the first of his two goals in the 50th minute, when his shot from left side hit the right post and bounced past UNF goalkeeper Phillip D'Amico for a 1-0 lead.

The Ospreys didn't stay down long. Collin Scott tied the game in the 61st minute when he converted a throw-in with a blast just under the crossbar.

But Stetson kept coming after Scott's goal and finally regained the lead in the 83rd minute when Raphael Northoff launched a close shot over D'Amico's head for a 2-1 lead. Sebastian Chalbaud had the assist.

Less than two minutes later, Scattergood put the game away with his second goal, off an assist by Gabriel Diniz, giving Stetson an insurmountable 3-1 lead.

Had it not been for the play of D'Amico, Stetson might have won by a wider margin. The UNF keeper made nine saves, including several at close range. Stetson's Braeden Luna faced 11 shots but only one on-goal.
