Hatters Fall at Texas 65-46

Austin, Texas -- Day'Neisha Banks scored a team-high 14 points in her Hatter debut, but 12th-ranked Texas defeated Stetson 65-46 Sunday afternoon in front of 3,088 fans at the Frank Erwin Center.

The Hatters (1-8) trailed by just eight at the half and by 10 with 5:51 to go, but a late 16-3 run by the Longhorns (8-2) put the game out of reach.

Texas held a 46-18 edge on the boards and converted 17 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points.

"I thought we played really well in spurts," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought they hurt us on the glass.  They are probably one of the best rebounding teams in the country, and I just thought it really hurt us."

In first game eligible after completing the fall semester, Banks was 6-for-10 from the floor with five rebounds and a steal.  She played 30 minutes off the bench.

"I thought Day Day was really good for us," Bria said.  "I think adding her is going to be a real big help."

Jon'Nita Henry and McKenna Beach added eight points apiece.

Danni Williams led Texas with 15 points.

Stetson will return home to host the Hatter Classic this week at the Edmunds Center.  The Hatters will face North Dakota at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Notes: Stetson recorded 13 steals as a team, tying a season-high ... In addition to making her Hatter debut, Day'Neshia Banks also celebrated her 20th birthday Sunday ... The Hatters held No. 9 Tennessee and No. 12 Texas two to 65 points each in back-to-back games ... After playing seven of nine on the road, Stetson's next six games will be at home.
