Hatters Drop a Pair on Saturday

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Stetson fell 15-5 to Bethune-Cookman and 6-3 to LIU-Brooklyn Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

Ashly Smith went 5-for-7 on the day with three runs scored to lead the Hatters (2-6).  Maggie Fritts collected three hits and drove in four runs.  Smith and Kasey Fava each stole three bases.

Against Bethune-Cookman, Stetson scored four in the first and one in the second to take an early 5-1 lead.  But the Wildcats (3-5) scored two in the fourth and 12 in the fifth to pull away.

Against LIU Brooklyn (3-6), the Hatters surrendered five unearned runs in the second inning to fall behind early.  Stetson did score two runs in the third and one more in the seventh but could not pull even.

Amanda Nikhazy and Holli Jones each collected their first Stetson hits on Saturday.

Jaime Tino (1-2) started game 1, while Tori Perkins (1-3) went the distance in game 2.

The Hatters will face Northern Iowa at 9 a.m. Sunday.
