Hatters Fall 4-1 to UNI

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Stetson fell 4-1 to Northern Iowa Sunday morning in the final game of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

The Panthers (9-1) collected 14 hits, all singles, to scratch out the victory.

The Hatters recorded six hits but fell to 2-7 on the season.

"I thought we played much better today," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "We played against a very good, well-discipled team.  I thought yesterday we just had a horrendous day - defensively, offensively, on the mound.  We just didn't do what we needed to do, but we are a young team.  I feel like we are learning from our mistakes. As long as we stay on that path, I think we will get to where we want to be down the road."

Catcher Devin Lewis had two hits at the plate including an RBI single in the fourth inning.  She also threw out two runners trying to steal bringing her total to five caught stealings on the season.

Center fielder Danielle Diaz also threw out a runner at the plate in the top of the sixth inning.

Tori Perkins went the distance in the circle for the Hatters.

Stetson will return home next weekend to host the Hatter Invitational with Colgate, Brown and Mount St. Mary's visiting Patricia Wilson Field.
