Stetson Rallies Late To Earn Friday Sweep

Linda Ross Hits a Walk-Off Single After Molly McLaughlin Ties It

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a dramatic 3-2 victory over Brown Friday night at Patricia Wilson Field.  Molly McLaughlin hit a two-out, two-run single to tie the game, and Linda Ross followed with a walk-off single to ignite an on-field celebration.

Stetson also defeated Colgate 2-1 earlier in the day to improve to 4-7 on the season.

Against Brown (1-1), the Hatters trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh when Maggie Fritts and Amanda Nikhazy each drew one out walks.  After a fly out and a stolen base moved the runners to second and third, McLaughlin came to bat with the game on the line.

"I had been hitting it hard all night," McLaughlin said.  "I just needed to find a hole and I found one."

McLaughlin looped a single to left, scoring both runners to tie the game.  Ross then followed with a line drive into the leftcenter field gap, easily scoring McLaughlin with the winning run.

It was Stetson's first win when trailing in its final at-bat since defeating Monmouth in 2016.

Jaime Tino (2-3) went the distance to earn the win in the circle.

Against Colgate (0-7), the Hatters grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Devin Lewis.  Lizzie Shubert added an RBI double in the fourth.

Tori Perkins made the lead hold up, with the help of some nice defensive plays.  Perkins helped start a 1-6-3 double play in the top of the third, and Ross turned a diving catch in left into a double play in the top of the sixth.

Perkins (2-4) allowed no earned runs over seven innings of work.

The Hatters will host Mount St. Mary's and Brown on Saturday.
