Hatters Fall Short Against Jacksonville, 61-54

Brittney Chambers Records Another Double-Double

DeLand, Fla. -- Despite Brittney Chambers' sixth double-double of the season, Stetson fell 61-54 to visiting Jacksonville Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (14-11, 5-4 ASUN) shot just 26 percent in the first half and 33 percent for the game in falling at home for only the second time this season.

"I thought we missed a ton of shots and a ton of lay-ups," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "When you get a lay-up, you have to stick them in, and we didn't do that.  We turned it over at some critical times, too."

Stetson trailed by 11 in the fourth quarter and cut it five with 7:06 to go.  After JU (17-7, 7-2) built the lead back to 11, Stetson rallied again, this time slicing the gap to just four with 3:02 remaining.  However, the Dolphins answered with a run of their own and held on for the seven-point victory.

"We dug ourselves a hole but we crawled back in it," Bria said.  "I think the lay-ups and the timing of some of the turnovers hurt us.  We just have to do a better job of executing down the stretch."

Chambers finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double in ASUN play.  Michelle Pruitt and McKenna Beach added 11 points apiece.  Jordan Tully grabbed eight rebounds and Megan Vincent recorded four blocks.

Jasmyn Brown hit three 3s and scored a game-high 27 points to lead JU.

"I thought our man defense was pretty good," Bria said.  "In the zone, we didn't do a real good job of finding Brown. We know she can shoot, we just have to get out there and not leave her open."

Stetson held a 40-38 advantage on the boards.

The Hatters will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at NJIT.

Notes:
  • The Hatters had won seven in row at home and eight in a row at home over JU
  • McKenna Beach and Brittney Chambers each played 40 minutes
  • Vincent's four blocks tied a season-high
  • The Hatters remained in third place with Upstate's win over Lipscomb
