Hatters Bounce Back With 4-2 Win Over UT Martin

DeLand, Fla. -- Devin Lewis hit her fourth home run of the year and Tori Perkins won her ninth game in the circle as Stetson defeated UT Martin 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Ashly Smith and Danielle Diaz each went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Hatters (16-9) won for the 14th time in their last 16 games.

"We took a tough loss last night, but I think we came back really well today," Smith said.  "We played with a lot of energy."

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth when Alli Fulcher hit a solo home run to give the Skyhawks (10-13) a 1-0 lead.

The Hatters answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.  With two on and two outs, Smith dropped a single into short left field allowing Diaz and Kasey Fava to score the tying and go-ahead runs.  Molly McLaughlin then reached on an infield single, and Smith scored when the throw to first got away.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lewis hit her fourth home run of the year to give the Hatters a key insurance run. It capped an incredible week for the Hatter freshman that included three walk-off hits and a pair of home runs.

UT Martin answered with one run in the seventh, but Perkins (9-5) closed the door to earn her sixth win in a row.  She allowed just five hits on the day while walking one and striking out one.

Stetson completed a busy seven-game spring break week with a 6-1 mark.

"It's been a lot of games," Smith said.  "It's been draining.  It feels like we have been playing every single day.  We now have a little bit of a break to catch us up on some rest."

Stetson will return to action Tuesday to host Rider in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
