Hatters Wrangle a Pair of Wins in the Stetson Round-Up

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson earned its 19th and 20th wins of the season Thursday, defeating George Mason 2-1 and Manhattan 5-1 at the Stetson Round-Up at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Hatters (20-9) have won five in a row, 13 out of 14, and 18 of their last 20 games.

Stetson had to rally for a victory in Game 1 as George Mason carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.  Maggie Fritts led off with a double into the left field corner, then scored on an RBI single to center by Blake Crews.

Danielle Diaz followed with a sacrifice bunt that allowed pinch-runner Talli Sharp to score the go-ahead run when the Patriots (9-11) made an errant throw to first base.

Perkins (12-5) closed the door in the seventh to earn her ninth consecutive win and her league-leading 12th victory of the season.  She went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits while tying a career-high with seven strikeouts.

It was Stetson's eighth come-from-behind victory this season and third win when trailing after five innings.

In Game 2, the Hatters jumped on top with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Ashly Smith and Molly McLaughlin each registered RBI singles, and Devin Lewis ripped a two-run single off the left field fence to give Stetson a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Crews walked, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Linda Ross's single to right to make it a 5-0 Stetson lead.

Jaime Tino (8-3) went the distance, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven.

Kasey Fava and Smith each recorded four hits on the day to lead the offense.  Fava extended her reached base streak to 24 games.

The Jaspers fell to 8-8.

The Hatters will host Manhattan on Friday for a single game at 4 p.m.
