Hatters Walk-Off vs. Holy Cross; Fall to Manhattan

DeLand, Fla. -- Two days after recording a pair of walk-off singles against Holy Cross, Devin Lewis was at it again on Friday.  The Hatter freshman recorded her third straight walk-off hit, this time a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that lifted Stetson a 9-1 run-rule victory over Holy Cross.

The Hatters (15-9) then fell 9-2 to Manhattan in the nightcap, snapping the team's eight-game winning streak.

Against Holy Cross, Stetson led just 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth when the Hatters started tacking on insurance runs.  With two outs, Ashly Smith drove in Holli Jones with a single to right to make it a 4-1 lead.  Molly McLaughlin followed with a two-run single to center to give the Hatters a 6-1 lead.  Shubert then reached on an error allowing McLaughlin to score.  Lewis then stepped to the plate, and on the first pitch, drove one out to deep center to end the game.

It was her third home run of the season and her third straight walk-off hit.

McLaughlin went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Hatters.  Kasey Fava and Lewis recorded two hits apiece.

Tori Perkins (8-5) won her fifth game in a row in the circle.  She allowed one run on seven hits, walked none and struck out three.

Against Manhattan, the Hatters trailed 2-1 in the fifth when Maggie Fritts hit her fourth home run of the season to tie the game 2-2.  The Jaspers (6-3), however, rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth, six of which were unearned, to take the lead for good.

Jaime Tino (7-3) suffered the loss.

The Hatters managed just four hits in the game.

Despite the split, Stetson has won 13 of its last 15 games.

The Hatters will host UT Martin at 4 p.m. Saturday.
