Hatters Impressive in ASUN Tournament Opener

No. 4 seed Stetson opened ASUN Women's Tennis Tournament play with an impressive 4-0 win over No. 5 seed Kennesaw State, Friday at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
 
The Hatters now advance to Saturday's semifinals where they will meet regular-season champion and tournament No. 1 seed FGCU at 2:30 p.m.
 
Stetson will be playing in the semifinals for the third straight season. FGCU defeated the Hatters, 7-0, last weekend in Fort Myers.
 
"It was good to win the way we did today in these tough conditions," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We are up for tomorrow's match tomorrow against FGCU. We have a lot to prove to ourselves. We are looking forward to the match."
 
The Hatters opened their tournament match by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 tandem of Maxine Bateman & Brooke Milner were 6-4 winners, and the No. 2 duo of Arijana Korac & Vicky Geurinckx clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win.
 
In singles play, Bateman was first on the board with a 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 6, and Danel Ashirova followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 3.
 
Sophomore Lucie Renault then clinched the team victory for the Hatters with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2.
