Hatters Suffer Heartbreak in ASUN Championship

Stetson men's tennis came up short in its bid for the program's first ASUN Conference championship in a 4-1 loss to North Florida, Sunday at UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville.

The Hatters conclude the 2018 season with an 18-4 overall record, the most wins for the program since 2011.

Play opened with No. 1 seed UNF winning the doubles point, but the No. 2 seeded Hatters fought until the end. The No. 3 tandem of Loic Blanco & Antoine Sanchez won, 6-3. After Stetson's No. 2 squad fell, the No. 1 duo of Linus Bergevi & Cilter DeCoste pushed UNF to the limit before the Ospreys took a 7-5 win to gain the doubles point.

In singles play, UNF grabbed a 2-0 lead with a win on Court 5 before Malik Bhatnagar got the Hatters on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 win on Court 1.

But that was all the Hatters would get. After a UNF win at No. 3, Stetson pushed the Ospreys to the third set on the remaining three courts before getting a win at No. 2 to clinch the championship.
