Hatters Fall Flat in Series Finale

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Sydney Matzko threw a one-hit shutout as North Florida defeated Stetson 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys (24-27, 4-11) won the series 2-games-to-1 and now lead the Hatters (25-21, 3-11) by a half game in the race for the final ASUN tournament spot.

Ashly Smith collected the only hit for the Hatters, a lead-off single in the top of the first.

"I was very disappointed in our approach at the plate," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "We were not aggressive at all.  We were taking pitches down the middle for strikes.  We had more errors than hits.  It was just a very disappointing game."

Tori Perkins (16-12) went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Stetson will host Jacksonville for the final three regular season games next weekend at Patricia Wilson Field.  The Hatters must either sweep the Dolphins or have a combination of four Stetson wins plus UNF losses (at FGCU) in order to qualify for the ASUN tournament.
