Coral Gables, Fla. – Two of the hottest teams in college baseball got together on Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park, but the only winner was Mother Nature.
 
As the Stetson Hatters (40-11) and Miami Hurricanes (25-25) did battle on the field, going to the bottom of the fifth inning in a 1-1 game before lightening chased the teams from Mark Light Field.
 
After more than two hours, of waiting, the game was called. It will go in the record book as a no contest.
 
Freshman Chris Gonzalez worked the first four innings for the Hatters, allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts before lightning halted play in the middle of the fifth inning.
 
The only run the Canes were able to generate came in the first inning when Tony Jenkins reached on a hustle double and then scored on a two-out single by Romy Gonzalez.
 
The Hatters were able to produce one hit in four of the first five innings against Miami starter Andrew Cabezas, with Nico Torino's solo homer in the second providing the only run.
 
Another Miami native, sophomore Jorge Arenas, picked up hits in each of his first two at bats to hit the 100-hit milestone for his career.
 
Stetson will now take its 10-game win streak into a three-game series against USC Upstate on Thursday at Melching Field. Miami will try to extend its eight-game win streak at home against Boston College.
