Hatters Down Jacksonville For Third Straight Win

Stetson Comes Up Big in The Fourth Quarter

Jacksonville, Fla. -- McKenna Beach hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with five minutes to play and Megan Vincent added six crucial points down the stretch as visiting Stetson defeated Jacksonville 69-56 Tuesday night at Swisher Gym.

The Hatters (10-11) won their third game in a row and improved to 5-2 in conference play.

"We haven't done real well on the road, and I think it was a huge win for us," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Jacksonville is one of the best teams in our league. I felt like our preparation was good and our focus was good."

Once again, the Hatters benefited from a balanced offensive attack. Day'Neshia Banks led five Hatters in double figures with 17 points.  Addi Walters and Mackenzie Davis each scored 13, and Beach and Vincent netted 10 points apiece.  Beach also collected 12 rebounds for her fifth career double-double.

Stetson led for much of the contest, but the game was tied at 47 heading into the fourth quarter.  The Dolphins (11-10, 4-4) led briefly at 53-52, but Beach drained a 3-pointer with 4:59 left to give Stetson the lead for good.  The Hatters allowed just four points the rest of the way to defeat the Dolphins for the first time in two years.

"This team is coming together and they are playing well together," Bria said.  "That solves a lot of problems.  Things didn't (always) go our way, but we just hung in there."

JU outrebounded Stetson 45-32, but the Hatters shot 44 percent from the floor and hit 15 free throws for the game.  The Dolphins shot just 32 percent.

The Hatters will go for four in a row on Saturday afternoon when they host Kennesaw State.
