On the heels of having a pair of players honored on Monday, the Stetson football program had five players recognized as either first or second team All-Conference by the Pioneer Football League on Tuesday.
Â
2019 PFL Defensive Player of the Year
Colby Duncan headlined the quintet of players recognized on Tuesday, earning first team All-PFL honors for a second consecutive year. Duncan was one of seven players from around the PFL to earn back-to-back first team honors.
Â
Duncan was joined on the first team by junior cornerback
JJ Henderson, who was a second team All-PFL pick last year.
Â
A trio of Hatters were named to the second team All-PFL squad. That group was led by sophomore defensive end
Fermon Reid who, despite missing the better part of three games with an injury, finished the season with 27 total tackles, including six tackles for loss and two sacks.
Â
Reid was joined by a pair of true freshmen – running back
Jalen Leary and kick returner
Jaylon Johnson. Leary was named the PFL's Freshman Offensive Player of the Year on Monday.
Â
Leary broke the Stetson single-season rushing mark for the modern era this year and became the first Hatter since the program restarted in 2013 to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for rushing yards in a season.
Â
Johnson broke the single-season school records for both kickoff return yards (717) and punt return yards (166) during the fall.
Â
In addition to the five players named to the first or second team All-PFL squads, a total of 11 Hatters earned honorable mention recognition. That group included: graduate quarterback
Gaven DeFilippo, senior defensive back
Jalon Scott, redshirt juniors Brad Alexander (OL), Â Antonio
Collintino Andrews (DE),
Matias Gasc (P)and
Jonny Messina (K), juniors Â
Hunter Stephens (LB) and
Justin Jordan (WR), sophomore
Colin Wray (LS) and redshirt freshmen offensive linemen

Â
The PFL will conclude its post-season awards on Wednesday when the All-Academic team, and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, are announced.
