Mental Health Awareness Campaign Developed at @ASUNSAAC Winter Meetings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thirty-seven ASUN Conference student-athletes, administrators & league representatives attended the 2019 Winter Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Meetings from January 25-26 on the campus of the University of North Florida.

In attendance at the meetings were all four ASUN SAAC Officers; Amanda Carroll (Chair/NCAA Division I Representative), Ahmed Amaar (Vice Chair), Jaci Hodskins (Secretary) and Rachel Noble (Social Media Coordinator), who steered discussion at the meetings around the development of best practices for on-campus community service efforts specifically surrounding the Fall Semester's Canned Food Drive. The group worked together to develop the focus and specific details for April's Mental Health Awareness Social Media Campaign.

On Saturday morning, the ASUN SAAC meeting attendees served as Leadership Coaches for K-12 students from Putnam, Clay & Duval County schools. Dr. Matthew Ohlson, from North Florida's Department of Leadership, Sport Management & School Counseling, guided the group of student-athletes and local students through a multitude of exercises at UNF Arena. On the final day, Carroll and Porscha Tidwell, the ASUN Director of Compliance, reviewed recent NCAA Proposals & Upcoming Legislation, while Carroll added a report of her recent attedance at the NCAA Convention in Orlando. The next set of ASUN SAAC Meetings will be hosted by Liberty University in July, while Kennesaw State University is set to host the 2020 Winter Meetings.
