Hatters Stage Furious Rally but Fall to Furman

Hannah Mill scored a career-high four goals but Stetson's furious second-half rally fell just short in a 15-13 loss to Furman, Friday at the Athletic Training Center.
 
The Hatters (0-8) fell behind early, trailing 7-2 after Furman (4-5) scored five straight goals to break open a tight start.
 
A late flurry by Stetson near the end of the first half pulled the Hatters to within 9-7, but the Paladins pushed their lead to 12-7 at halftime before the Hatters came out firing to start the second half.
 
The Hatters came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, scoring five straight goals as Marina Rotella, Mill, Riley Reagan, Shelby Lehmann and Saige-Lyn Gidzinski each scored. Gidzinksi's goal knotted the game at 12-all with 17:14 to play.
 
But the Hatters couldn't sustain their push. Furman answered with three straight goals, taking a 15-12 lead with 7:43 to play. Lehmann got the Hatters within 15-13 with a goal at 3:14 but Stetson never got any closer.
 
In addition to the four goals by Mill, three other Hatters also had multi-goal games. Rotella scored three times, and Lehmann and Gidzinski each scored twice.
 
Grace Pollack led Furman with five goals.
 
Kiera McCarthy finished with 12 saves for the Hatters, her best effort in five games.
 
Stetson next hosts Wofford, noon, Sunday.
