Hatters Rally Late For Walk-Off Win

Elizabeth Jackson Comes Through After Nine Pitch At-Bat

DeLand, Fla. -- Elizabeth Jackson's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a two-run rally as Stetson defeated North Alabama 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Hatters (12-19, 3-3 ASUN) trailed 1-0 going into their last at-bat, but Kasey Fava tied the game with a sacrifice fly before Jackson delivered the game-winner following a nine-pitch at-bat.

"I was really looking to hit early in the count," Jackson said.  "I wasn't hoping to get two strikes on me, but I just had to keep fouling off until I got a pitch I could handle at the end.  I was grateful for that."

After falling behind 0-2, Jackson fouled off four pitches and took two balls before knocking a single up the middle that scored Maddie Marchiando from third with the winning run.

"She really showed determination," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "She was fouling off balls every direction.  She got a hard grounder up the middle and that's all it took."

The victory made a winner out of Tori Perkins (10-7), who battled with UNA starter Laken Distefano (3-2) through six scoreless innings.  Harley Stokes led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to give the Lions (17-11, 3-3 ASUN) a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Blake Crews started the rally with a one-out single to right. Pinch-runner Linda Ross moved to third on a UNA throwing error and scored on Fava's sacrifice fly.

Perkins allowed just one run and six hits while breezing through the middle innings.  At one point she retired 10 in a row over a span of just 19 pitches.

"Once again Tori pitched an outstanding game, I thought our defense did a good job, and we rallied in the seventh to take the win," Griffin said.

It was the Hatters' third walk-off win this season and their sixth come-from-behind victory. Stetson is now 3-3 in ASUN play.

The Hatters will host Bethune-Cookman in doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
