Hatters Fall Twice on Saturday

Allie Carroll Collects Four Hits on the Day

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson fell 3-1 in nine innings to Fairfield in game one and 8-1 to UT Martin in game two Saturday in the second day of the Stetson Invitational at Patricia Wilson Field.

Against Fairfield, the Hatters (6-13) scored in the bottom of the first inning when Elizabeth Jackson scored all the way from second on an infield hit by Allie Carroll.

The Stags (7-3) pulled even in the top of the fourth, and the two starting pitchers kept the game deadlocked through seven innings.

In the top of the eighth, Fairfield loaded the bases with one out, but Jaime Tino got a fielder's choice grounder and a line out to work out of the jam.

The Hatters thought they had the won in the bottom of the eighth when Lizzie Shubert nearly beat out a two-out grounder that would have scored Molly McLaughlin.  The call at first went Fairfield's way, however, sending the game to the ninth inning where the Stags plated the final two runs of the game.

Stetson starter Tori Perkins allowed just one unearned run in seven innings of work.  She walked none and struck out two.  Karisa Hughen pitched all nine innings for Fairfield.

Stetson's lone run against UT Martin (11-10) came on a sacrifice fly by Blake Crews.  The Hatter catcher also cut down three runners trying to steal on the day.

Overall, Carroll had four hits and McLaughlin had three to lead the offense.

The Hatters will host Bethune-Cookman at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the final game of the Stetson Invitational.
