Baseball To Host KSU For Easter Weekend Series

The Stetson baseball team returns home to Melching Field for its final home games in April when the Hatters host Kennesaw State in a three-game Easter weekend series.

The series will begin on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. With bad weather expected on Friday, the second game of the series has been moved up to a noon start. Saturday's series finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, but will be dependent on whether Friday's game is able to be played.

All three games in the series will be available to watch free online through Hatter Vision.

The Hatters (16-19, 5-4) come into the ASUN series after losing a series to Liberty last weekend in Virginia. Kennesaw State (17-21, 4-5) also dropped its league series to FGCU last week.

The Owls lead the all-time series against Stetson 22-20, having won three consecutive regular season series from the Hatters, and eight of the last 10 series overall. Stetson earned sweeps of the Owns in 2011 and again in 2015.

Stetson will send sophomore left-hander Chris Gonzalez (5-0, 2.15) to the mound for the series opener on Thursday. Gonzalez led the Hatters to their only victory over Liberty last week, holding the Flames to two runs on four hits over 8 2/3 innings of work.

He will be opposed in the opener by KSU senior right-hander Brooks Buckler (2-3, 3.58). Buckler allowed five runs on 11 hits over seven innings in his start last week against FGCU. In his only outing against Stetson last year he went the distance in a 2-1 loss during the ASUN Tournament, allowing two runs on five hits.
