Feisty Hatters Stopped Short in ASUN Tournament

Stetson men's tennis saw its season come to an abrupt halt on Thursday as the Hatters suffered a 4-2 loss to Kennesaw State in the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand.

The fifth-seeded Hatters (11-12) didn't go down without a fight, however. Stetson pushed the fourth-seeded Owls (11-12) to a third set in four of six singles matches before succumbing.

KSU opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking a pair of 6-2 wins on Courts 2 and 3.

Singles was a slugfest. But before things got tight, the Owls were able to take a 2-0 lead with a straight set in on Court 2. They stretched the lead to 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory on Court 1.

The remaining four courts all ended up in a third set. The Hatters got on the board when Tim Gennes secured a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 4. Coilin MacNamara cut the deficit to 3-2 with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 win on Court 5 in what would prove to be the senior's final collegiate match.

Kennesaw State, however, wouldn't let the Hatters get away. The owls closed out the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win on Court 6.

The Owls continue play in the tournament tomorrow against top seed FGCU.
