Hatters Downed at Kennesaw State

Kennesaw State's Abby Squires scored five goals as the Owls defeated Stetson, 15-6, in ASUN Conference lacrosse action on Saturday at KSU's Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

The loss not only drops the Hatters to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play, it also deals a serious blow to Stetson's post-season aspirations. With just one game remaining on the conference schedule the hatters now need to beat league-leading Jacksonville in next Saturday's season finale, while also needing Kennesaw State to lose at Howard.

On Saturday, the Owls (7-9, 2-3) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Stetson got on the board on a Taylor Zuberer goal with 19:38 to play in the half, but Kennesaw State scored the next three goals to take control of the game at 6-1.

Leading 7-3 at halftime, the Owls opened the second half by scoring six of the first seven goals for a 13-4 lead.

Marina Rotella slowed Kennesaw State by scoring with 18:00 to play, but once again the Owls answered back by scoring consecutive goals one minute apart to put the game out of reach at 15-5 with16:01 to go.

Rotella finished with a team-high four goals. She was the only Hatter to score more than once.

ASUN scoring leader Siena Gore finished with three goals for the Owls.

The Hatters open their final home stand of the year when they host Cincinnati, 3 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at the Athletic Training Center.
