Hatters’ Struggles Continue in 3-2 Loss to Bisons

Nashville, Tenn. – For the third straight day the Stetson Hatters had plenty of scoring chances in their game against Lipscomb at Ken Dugan Field.

For the third straight day, the Hatters failed to take advantage of those chances, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Bisons on Sunday, suffering their first ASUN sweep since 2016 when the Bisons pulled the trick in DeLand.

Stetson (18-25, 7-8) has now lost six consecutive games for the first time since early in the 2014 season. Lipscomb improved to 24-19 overall and 8-7 in ASUN play.

The loss was especially tough for Stetson sophomore pitcher Robbie Peto, who allowed just three hits over eight innings of work. Just two of the three runs he allowed in the game were earned. He walked two and struck out seven in falling to 0-8 on the year.

Stetson has scored a total of 30 runs in the 11 games Peto has started this year and the sophomore has allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight of his 11 outings.

Lipscomb got on the board first as senior Tevin Symonette continued to haunt the Hatters. Symonette doubled off the wall in left after a walk in the second to put runners at second and third. Josh Martinez followed with a fly ball to right to score the first run of the day.

The Bisons pushed their lead to 2-0 in the third inning getting a run on a bunt single, a wild pitch, a walk, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly.

Stetson got on the board in the fourth inning when Eric Foggo blasted an opposite field homer, his fourth of the year.

Lipscomb got that run right back in the bottom of the inning when Symonette blasted a solo homer to left-center, his third of the weekend.

Stetson got back to within one run in the sixth inning when Foggo and Mark Townsend delivered consecutive one out hits. Baylen Sparks grounded out to score Foggo.

The Hatters stranded nine runners for a second consecutive day after outhitting the Bisons nine to three.

Lipscomb starter Joshua Colon (4-3) earned the win, allowing the two runs on six hits in six innings of work. For the third straight day, Robbie Knox closed out the game for the Bisons, earning his eighth save of the year.

The Hatters will close out their six-game road trip on Tuesday night when they venture down I-4 to Tampa for the second game of the season series against USF. That game from USF Stadium is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start and will be broadcast on the Bulls Vision YouTube Channel.
