Hatters Set for Sunday Battle at USF

Preview
The Stetson women's basketball team will travel to Tampa, Fla. Sunday to face the USF Bulls.  Tip-off at Yuengling Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.  It will mark Stetson's first road game of the season.

The All-Time Series
USF leads the all-time series 29-11 over Stetson. The Bulls have won 12 straight in the series, all coming in Tampa.  The teams last met in the 2019 WNIT First Round in Tampa, where USF defeated Stetson 84-50. Game-by-Game Results

About the Opponent
USF is 2-1 following its 67-63 overtime victory over No. 6 Mississippi State last week.  The Bulls are receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches Top 25 poll for an unofficial #26 national ranking.  Maria Alvarez leads USF in scoring (13.5).

Last Time Out
Stetson shot 55 percent from the field and 48 percent from the arc to post a 98-48 victory over Edward Waters in Thursday's season opener.  Yazz Wazeerud-Din was impressive in her Stetson debut, scoring a team-high 18 points with five rebounds and five steals. She led the way as five different Hatters scored in double figures.


3-Point Shooting
Stetson shot a blistering 48 percent (12-for-25) from behind the arc on Thursday.  Seven different Hatters connected from long range, including Maddie Novak, who went 3-for-3.  Stetson hit 12 3-pointers in a game for just the 11th time in school history.

Double Figure Scoring
Day'Neshia Banks has scored in double figures in 13 straight games dating back to last season, averaging  17.0 ppg during that stretch. The ASUN preseason all-conference selection has now scored in double figures in 46 of her 52 career games with Stetson. 

First Double-Double
Jamiya Turner joined the double-double club with her first such performance against Edward Waters.  The sophomore guard went for 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.  Seven of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.

The Head Coach
Head Coach Lynn Bria is in her 13th season with the Hatters and 26th season overall. She holds a school record of 223-163 (.578).

Under the Hat
  • Sunday's game will mark the second of a 5-game-in-11-day stretch for the Hatters
  • Although the sample size is extremely small, Stetson leads the NCAA in scoring margin (+50.0)
  • The Hatters are seeking their first win over USF since 1997
Up Next
The Hatters will return home for three games next week, beginning with a 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon tilt vs. Florida Memorial.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
