Second Half Surge Lifts Hatters Past Florida Memorial 75-52

DeLand, Fla. -- A 22-4 run midway through the third quarter propelled Stetson to a 75-52 victory over Florida Memorial Tuesday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din led the way with 13 points and Day'Neshia Banks registered a double-double as the Hatters improved to 2-1 on the season.

Wazeerud-Din scored 11 of her points in the first quarter alone to stake Stetson to an early 19-13 lead.  The teams played even in the second quarter as the Hatters carried a 33-27 lead into the break.

After a slow start in the third quarter, Stetson went on a 15-4 run over the final five minutes of the period, punctuated by Jamiya Turner's long jumper at the buzzer.  The Hatters then extended the lead to 61-39 with a 7-0 run early in the fourth.  Shamari Tyson hit a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch as the Hatters cruised to their second home victory of the season.

Overall, four Hatters scored in double figures.  Wazeerud-Din added six rebounds and four steals to her team-high 13 points.  Tippy Robertson recorded 12 points and five assists, while Turner and Banks chipped in 10 points apiece.  Banks also pulled down 10 boards for her first double-double of the season.

Shania Edgecombe, making her second straight start at center, posted career-highs of eight points, five rebounds and five blocks.

Stetson shot 42 percent from the field while the FMU shot 31 percent.  Keaynna Tolbert led the Lions with 17 points.

Stetson will host the 33rd Annual Hatter Classic this weekend at the Edmunds Center.  Stetson and UAB will square off in the first game at 11 a.m. Friday with live coverage on ESPN+.

  • The Hatters held a 46-43 advantage on the boards.
  • Day'Neshia Banks earned her 14th career double-double. It was her 47th double-figure scoring game with the Hatters.
  • Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the ASUN in steals-per-game (3.3).
