Hatters Battle but Fall 70-60 in ASUN Quarterfinals

Florence, Ala. -- No. 2 seed North Alabama survived a strong 40-minute effort from No. 7 seed Stetson to come away with a 70-60 victory in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall.

The Lions (21-8) advance to Wednesday's semifinals while the Hatters complete their season with a 12-18 mark.

A terrific start for the upset-minded Hatters saw Stetson jump out an 18-6 lead after 1. Day'Neshia Banks scored 11 points in the first quarter alone as the Hatters connected on their first four attempts from 3-point range.

North Alabama fought back to lead by three at the half, and although Stetson managed a brief 36-36 tie in the third quarter, the Hatters never could regain the lead.

"I thought we came out and had a great start," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Our energy was good and our effort was good the whole game.  We played a very tough game against a very tough team that's playing at an extremely high level.  I don't have any complaints about our effort, or about how we hung in there and played aggressive.  Hopefully we can build on this and get better for next year."

Stetson shot 32 percent from the floor, 39 percent from the arc, and played even on the boards with North Alabama (40-40).

Banks finished with 25 points to lead all scorers.  Megan Vincent registered a 12-point, 12-rebound double double, and Kimia Carter netted 13 points.

Ivy Wallen scored 20 points to lead the Lions.

Banks finished the season three field goals shy of 200, but still became the first Hatter in 30 years and the second player all-time with at least 195 field goals in a single-season.  She led the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.
