Hatters Edged at Central Michigan

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.--Central Michigan edged Stetson, 13-11, in women's lacrosse action on Sunday at CMU Soccer Complex.

Stetson (1-4) had trouble digging its way out of an early deficit as the Hatters yielded five straight goals to the Chippewas (2-3), after the Hatters opened the game with a score.

But the Hatters were able to claw their way back into the game. Down 5-1, Hannah Mill and Saige-Lyn Gidzinski scored back-to-back goals to get Stetson within 5-3, and after a CMU score, Mill added another as Stetson closed the gap to 6-4.

The teams traded pairs of goals in the final nine minutes of the half and CMU added one more score as the Chippewas took a 9-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

After CMU opened the half with a goal for a 10-6 lead, the Hatters ripped off three consecutive goals by Mill, Maria Snee and Marina Rotella to get within 10-9 with 23:20 to go.

The Hatters and Chippewas traded goals to make it an 11-10 game, but CMU scored three of the game's final four goals to secure the victory.

Mill led the Hatters with four goals, while Snee and Rotella each scored three times. Goalie Kiera McCarthy made eight saves and picked up six ground balls.

Riley Reagan became Stetson's career assists leader when she assisted on Rotella's goal late in the first half. The junior now has 88 assists, one more than previous record holder Hallie Merz (2015-18).

The Hatters next begin a six-game home stand when they host LIU, 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Athletic Training Center.
