Hatters Walk-Off Against Fairfield

Riley Russell Goes 2-for-3 with GW run

DeLand, Fla. -- Riley Russell scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Stetson defeated Fairfield 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.  It was the Hatters' third walk-off win this season.

Stetson (11-14) completed the Hatter Classic with a 3-2 mark.

Russell led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk and moved to second on Molly McLaughlin's sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk to Lizzie Shubert, Russell tagged and advanced to third on Nyah Morgan's fly out to right.

With two outs, Devin Lewis hit a grounder that Fairfield could not field cleanly allowing Russell to score the winning run.

Earlier, Stetson scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a squeeze bunt by Shubert and an RBI double from Morgan.

Fairfield (3-9) scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the game 2-2.

Chloe Temples (9-6) went the distance in the circle to become the first ASUN pitcher with nine victories on the season.  She walked three and struck out four.

Offensively, Shubert went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Russell went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases, and Blake Crews had two hits as well.

The Hatters will host USC Upstate for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Wednesday.  The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Notes: Stetson improved to 7-0 when scoring first ... The Hatters have six wins in their last at-bat ... The victory came one day after the two-year anniversary of Devin Lewis' double walk-off in a doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross ... Russell leads the ASUN in stolen bases (16).

All-Tournament Team:
Lauren Klein, Devin Lewis - Stetson
Amy Petrovich, Shyanne Fennell - Sacred Heart
