Stetson University baseball coach
Steve Trimper has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in the Hatters' dugout through at least the 2024 season, Director of Athletics
Jeff Altier announced today.
Â
Trimper's new contract does include automatic extensions of up to two years for ASUN Conference championships and/or NCAA post-season play.
Â
"This extension is a recognition of the national success the baseball program has enjoyed over the last four years under Coach Trimper," Altier said. "The program generated unprecedented national recognition during the 2018 run, hosting and winning an NCAA Regional and making an appearance in Super Regional play.
Â
"Steve has also generated national attention for the program and the university community as the result of his book on leadership 'Walk Off Winning'. He is an in-demand speaker, talking to a wide variety of corporations on leadership and culture, across the country. The student-athletes in the baseball program have continued a level of success academically, which also strengthens our university."
Â
Trimper has posted a record of 113-79 in his three-plus seasons, including the record-setting 2018 campaign in which the team finished 48-13 and was ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation. The 2020 season was off to a great start with an 11-4 mark through 15 games when the season was halted because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to success on the field, the Hatters finished the spring semester with a cumulative 3.17 team grade point average.
Â
In his three full seasons the Hatters have finished second once and first once in ASUN play, have won an ASUN Tournament title and finished as the tournament runner-up once.
Â
"I am extremely excited to continue to work as the head baseball coach at Stetson University," Trimper said. "In the short amount of time I have been here, I quickly realized Stetson University and the city of DeLand are a slice of heaven. I am fortunate to be around tremendous student-athletes and a coaching staff who are working to make Stetson Baseball a top tier Division I baseball program.
Â
"I want to sincerely thank Jeff for the opportunity he has given me to serve under his leadership. He cares deeply about the entire athletics program, and all of Stetson University. I also want to thank Dr. Wendy Libby for her leadership, which has truly been impactful. I am also looking forward to working with incoming President, Dr. Christopher Roellke, as we continue to build Stetson University as a leader in higher education."
