Hatters fall to Liberty in The Hill City

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Stetson University women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Liberty University Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium.

The Hatters (5-8-2, 2-3-1) got out to a hot start Sunday afternoon as Stetson's offense was aggressive early on as Chloe Washington found a shot opportunity in the 5' but was off frame. Despite the aggressive Hatters offense, the Flames (10-4-1, 5-1-0) struck first in the 16' on a goal from Maddy Oliver. Three minutes later, LU netted another to take a 2-0 advantage. Kylie Overstreet had a shot on goal in the 33' but was saved by the Flames keeper. LU added a third goal in the 36' to make it a three-score match before intermission.

Stetson wasted no time in the second half as Jackie Fiacco put the Hatters on the board in the 50' on an assist from Alexa LoBasso to cut the deficit to 3-1. In the 63', Washington found another open opportunity, but was unable to capitalize as her shot went out over the LU net. The Hatters took one final shot in the 87', but Kyleigh Thlen could not get passed the Flames keeper and Stetson ultimately fell, 3-1.

Stetson returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 14 as the Hatters travel to Kennesaw, Georgia to take on Kennesaw State in another ASUN Eastern Division battle. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
