Hatters fall 4-2 at Jacksonville St. on a rainy Sunday

Jacksonville, Ala. -- The Stetson University women's soccer team fell to Jacksonville State University 4-2 Sunday afternoon in a rainy ASUN Conference match.

The Hatters (5-7-1, 2-1-0) were slow out of the gate in Sunday's match, as Jacksonville set the pace. The Gamecocks (6-6-1, 1-2-0) struck first in the 16' as Cephana Deane found the back of the Hatters net. JSU outshot Stetson 10-1 in the opening half as Stetson's only shot came from Jordan Ross in the 21'. In the 23', the Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead and then in the 43', extended it to a 3-0 lead before intermission.

The Hatters offense came to life in the second stanza as Stetson took two shots right out of the gate. In the 54', Alexa LoBasso got the Hatters on the board with an unassisted goal as she beat a JSU defender and found the back of the Gamecocks net, cutting the Hatters deficit to 3-1. Six minutes later in the 61', JSU took back a three-score lead. Then in the last five seconds of action, Jackie Fiacco missed a penalty kick but netted her second chance shot to make it a 4-2 match before time expired.

The Stetson University women's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 7 as the Hatters return home for an ASUN Conference match against University of North Florida. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
