Hatters head to FAU for non-conference match-up with Owls

Boca Raton, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set to face Florida Atlantic University on Wednesday Dec. 1 as the Hatters travel to Boca Raton for a non-conference bout with the Owls. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on the Conference USA network.

Stetson came back home to the Edmunds Center on Saturday, Nov. 27 following a three-game road trip and then a six-day layoff. The Hatters fell 60-58 to the Campbell University Camels despite a second half comeback that began with a 15-0 run. Rob Perry led all scorers on the night as he tallied 19 points, with 17 coming in the second half. The Orlando native also went 5-for-9 from long range, with all five coming in the second half. Chase Johnston and Christiaan Jones joined Perry in double-digit points as Johnston put up 15 and Jones added 13.

Scouting the Owls
The Owls enter Wednesday's matchup with a 3-4 overall record as FAU comes off a 69-65 loss against James Madison back on Nov. 28.

FAU's offense is driven by Michael Forrest's 16.9 points per game through seven contests thus far as he shoots .447 from the field and an even .400 from beyond the arc. His 29.6 minutes per game also leads all Owls players. Alijah Martin averages 13.1 points per game and shoots at a .458 clip while also bringing down 5.9 boards per game to lead the Owls. Bryan Greenlee's 3.8 assists also leads the team.

All-Time Series
The Hatters lead the all-time series between the two Florida schools, 19-16 in 35 meetings, dating back to 1993. Stetson took the last matchup 78-69 a year ago on Dec. 15, 2020. The Hatters look to make it two in a row and four of the last five against the Owls.

Scouting the Hatters
The Hatters enter Wednesday's meeting with a 2-3 overall record and come off their 60-58 loss to Campbell. Perry leads the Stetson offense, averaging 15.0 points per game, shooting at a .369 clip, and averaging 31.6 minutes on the floor. Johnston leads the Hatters in average time on the floor with 33.4 minutes per game while putting up 13.2 points per game with a .395 3-point percentage through the first five contests. Perry and Josh Smith each tally an average of 6.6 boards per game.

Looking Ahead
After its matchup with FAU, Stetson continues its non-conference schedule with another intrastate matchup as the Hatters face Florida International University on Saturday, Dec. 4 in Miami. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
