Hatters head back to the 305 to renew rivalry with Hurricanes

Coral Gables, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set to visit University of Miami on Mon. Dec. 20 as the Hatters take on the Hurricanes for the 84th time in program history. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on Bally Sports Sun as well as FOX Sports GO and on WatchESPN.

Recap
Stetson comes off a big 67-59 win over College of Charleston on Thursday. With the win, the Hatters snapped their 12-game losing streak to the Cougars and finished their three-game home stretch with a 2-1 record. Christiaan Jones led all scorers on the night as the graduate student recorded a season-high 23 points with nine rebounds. Chase Johnston tallied 14 points of his own while Josh Smith added a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

"One of our biggest hard-fought victories of the year and I thought it was a great team effort," said Hatters' head coach Donnie Jones after Thursday night's victory.

Scouting the Canes
Miami enters Monday's contest with an 8-3 overall record and is in the midst of a four-game win streak as the Hurricanes have topped Penn State, Clemson, Lipscomb, and most recently Fordham. Stetson will be the fourth non-Power Five school that Miami faces this season.

Only three Canes players average double figures as sixth-year senior Kameron McGusty leads all Canes scorers with 17.6 points a game. Isaiah Wong and Charlie Moore each average 15.4 and 11.0 points, respectively. Four others average between four and seven points. As a team, Miami shoots 46 percent from the field and just over 30 percent from beyond the arc at 30.7 percent. The Hurricanes average 73.1 points per game compared to their opponents' 70.9.

All-Time Series
Monday night's contest will be the 84th meeting between the two school Sunshine State schools. The history between the Hatters and the Hurricanes dates back almost 100 years to 1928. The Hurricanes hold a 51-32 record over the Hatters in their 83 contests to date with the last one coming on Dec. 4, 2020, as Miami topped Stetson 82-60 and extended its win streak over the Hatters to 10 in a row.

Hatters Keys and Notes
Stetson comes into Monday night's game with a 4-6 overall record and have won two in a row after topping College of Charleston on Thursday night. Stetson features a balanced scoring effort with five Hatters tallying between six and 14 points per game. Meanwhile, the Stetson defense has held opponents to less than 60 points in three consecutive games. Monday night's contest against Miami will be the Hatters second game against a Power Five foe this season as the Hatters faced Georgia Tech in their second game of the year.

Rob Perry continues to lead the Hatters in points per game with 13.7 while Johnston and Jones average 12.5 and 11.6 respectively. As a team, Stetson is shooting 43 percent from the field and just over 30 percent from long range at 30.8 percent.
