Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Ron Fulmore

Today, we continue our Alumni Spotlight series with former Hatter Dr. Ron Fulmore. Fulmore is a 2005 Stetson University graduate and is now a Chiropractor in Orlando.

1. How did you start playing Soccer and why?
I started playing soccer at the age of 3. With my Mother being from Jamaica, it was natural for her to place me in soccer.

2. Favorite current or past players/favorite team you support?
My favorite player is Ronaldinho. His creativity and passion for the game is what stands out for me.

3. Why Stetson?
During my senior year at Lake Brantley HS, Stetson reached out and wanted me to make an official visit. During my visit, I had a blast hanging out with the team and saw first hand how beautiful the campus was. Between the players, campus, and location, I knew Stetson was the right choice.

4. Hardest and best parts about being a Division I Athlete?
For me, the hardest part about being a Division I Athlete was managing the training, studying, and socializing initially. At first, it could be a lot, but I would say our group of guys looked out for each other on and off the field. To this day, we are all very tight and we created a bond that has stuck with us.

5. What is your favorite Stetson Men's Soccer memory?
It would have to be winning the Conference Tournament for the first time in Stetson history. Going into the finals we were the underdogs . Our starting goalie was injured and we lost to the opposing team (Campbell University) 7-2 in the regular season. We played an amazing game and were able to bring the championship home, giving Stetson University its first birth into the NCAA Tournament. That season I was voted MVP, which is an honor I pride myself on.

6. How has your career progressed since Stetson? How did the Men's Soccer Program prepare you for the workforce?
After Stetson, I attended Palmer Chiropractic College and received my Doctorate in Chiropractic. From there I joined my father in practice in Orlando, FL and continue to grow the business. During my time playing at Stetson, I learned a lot of lessons that directly relate to the business world. I learned to deal with adversity, manage my time, and work as a team. These are all skills that become invaluable in the workforce.

7. What recommendations would you give to graduating members of the program on how to choose a career and how to find a job?
I would tell graduating members of the program to think creatively and not be afraid to shoot their shot at ambitious job opportunities and/or ventures. The world is changing and looking for young, smart talent. Utilize your network and even Stetson alumni to ask for introductions and get your foot in the door.

8. What advice would you give to current and future members of the Stetson Men's Soccer Program?
Enjoy the moment and keep it fun but do not take for granted the opportunity you have. The ups and downs you are currently facing are slowly molding you to become a better version of yourself.
