Hatters head to the 305 to face Florida International

Miami Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team gets set for another non-conference contest against a Conference USA opponent as the Hatters take on Florida International University on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on the CUSA streaming network.

Stetson comes off its second straight loss as the Hatters fell 83-73 to Florida Atlantic University back on Nov. 30. In the first half, Stetson faced a large deficit as the Hatters were down by as many as 17 at one point and although the offense came to life in the second half, the Hatters were unable to surmount the deficit. In the loss, three Hatters tallied double-digit points as Chase Johnston and Mahamadou Diawara led all scorers with 18 while Rob Perry recorded 15 of his own. 
 
Scouting the Panthers
FIU enters Saturday's contest with its best start in three years as the Panthers are 7-1 and are winners of seven in a row after topping Florida Gulf Coast 77-61 on Dec. 1. 
 
Three Panthers average double-digit points as Tevin Brewer leads FIU with 16.0 points per game while Daniel Parrish and Denver Jones average 15.0 and 10.9, respectively. As a team, the Panthers boast a .458 field goal percentage while shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc. Clevon Brown averages 5.9 rebounds in the post while averaging 9.0 points per game. 
 
All-Time Series
The Panthers lead the all-time series 15-9 between Stetson and FIU, dating back to Nov. 26, 1990. The Hatters have come out on top in three of the last four, but it was FIU that got the best of Stetson in the last matchup as the Panthers topped the Hatters 83-67 back on Dec. 22, 2019. 
 
Scouting the Hatters
Stetson comes into Saturday night's game with a 2-4 overall record as the Hatters have dropped two in a row, losing to Campbell 60-58 back on Nov. 27 and then 83-73 to FAU on Wednesday night. 
 
This season, Perry leads the Hatters thus far with 15.0 points per game while Johnston has averaged an even 14.0. As a team, Stetson holds a .419 clip from the field and is shooting 33.8 percent from long range. Perry and Josh Smith have remained busy under the basket as the pair are first and second in boards per game with 6.2 and 5.7, respectively. 
 
Looking Ahead
After its bout with FIU, Stetson returns home for three in a row at the Edmunds Center as the Hatters host Ohio University (Dec. 11), Johnson University (Dec. 13) and College of Charleston (Dec.16). Tip-off against the Bobcats on Dec. 11 is at 3 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
