The Stetson baseball team finished the month of February the same way they started – undefeated.
The Hatters ran their win streak to start the year to nine games by completing a four-game sweep of ASUN foe North Alabama (0-5) with a 7-2 victory on Sunday. The games in the series do not count in the ASUN standings.
The nine-game win streak to open the season is the best for any team in program history, surpassing the 2002 and 1981 squads that both opened the year with eight game win streaks.
In a weekend loaded with milestones for Stetson, Sunday's game was no different.
Jorge Arenas was on the field for his 200
th game as a Hatter and new teammate
Hernen Sardinas – a graduate transfer from the University of Maine – recorded his 200
th career hit.
Hatters starting pitcher
Chris Gonzalez battled on the mound into the eighth inning, allowing just two runs on five hits. One of those runs came in the eighth when he surrendered consecutive hits to start the inning. After getting the first out, he left the game in the hands of the Stetson pen.
Redshirt junior
Nick Long struggled with his control, loading the bases with a walk and a hit batter, before Stetson called on freshman
Jonathan Gonzalez, the younger brother of the Hatters' starter.
Jonathan left a strong impression on the Hatters' faithful, striking out consecutive hitters to end the threat and leave the bases loaded, sparing his older sibling from being charged with another run.
The Hatters will return to action at Melching Field on Wednesday night to host UCF in the second game of the season series with the Knights. UCF (3-4) is coming off a series win on the road, taking two of three games from the University of Mississippi. The Rebels went into the series as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
Game time on Wednesday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Hatters Notes
- Graduate Jorge Arenas appeared in his 200th career game for the Hatters on Sunday. Arenas has played in every game for Stetson since arriving on campus for the 2017 season. It was his 199th career start. The only game in his career that he didn't start was the second game of a double-header at FGCU on May 12, 2019. He came into that game as a pinch hitter and had a walk and a hit and drove in a run.
- Graduate transfer Hernen Sardinas picked up his 200th career hit in the very first inning when he lined a single into right center.
- Arenas will be the next Hatter to reach the 200-hit milestone. He closed play this weekend with 183 hits in his career. He also needs just five runs scored for 100 in his career.
- MacNeil's big weekend boosted him to the 100 runs scored milestone in his career. He scored nine runs in the series against UNA.
- Eric Foggo also hit a milestone over the weekend when he recorded his 100th hit.
- Freshman Anthony DeFabbia, who is already 2-0 on the year as a pitcher, made his first start in the outfield on Sunday and picked up his first hit.
- Sunday's start against UNA was the second for Chris Gonzalez against the Lions. In his two starts now against UNA, Gonzalez has worked 16.1 innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits with 13 strikeouts. He earned an ASUN Pitcher of the Week award for his outing at UNA on March 29, 2019.
