Hatters Fall in Series Finale at FGCU

Jordyn Stanfill hits first-inning grand slam

Fort Myers, Fla. -- Hatter freshman Jordyn Stanfill hit a first-inning grand slam but FGCU rallied for 7-6 victory over Stetson Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Softball Complex.

The victory gave the Eagles (12-10, 3-0 ASUN) a sweep of the weekend series.  

In the top of the first, the Hatters (4-9, 0-3) loaded the bases on a walk, hits-batsman, and single to center. Stanfill then stepped in a worked the count full before blasting a grand slam over the leftcenter field fence.  It was the first road grand slam by a Hatter since 2014 (Courtney Brandt) and the first grand slam by a Hatter freshman since 2005 (Lindsay Wightman).

FGCU rallied with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie the game 4-4.  The Hatters scored twice in the top of the seventh to to take a 6-4 lead, but the Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to walk off with the win.

Chloe Temples (2-5) allowed 12 hits over 6.2 innings in the circle for the Hatters. She was also 1-for-3 with a double. Marissa Mesiemore (6-4) picked up the win in relief for FGCU.

Stanfill finished the week with 10 RBI.

The Hatters will return to action next weekend with a three-game series at Jacksonville.
