Hatters Land CBI Invite, Will Face Bowling Green in Opening Round

Stetson men's basketball has accepted an invitation to play in the College Basketball Invitational, scheduled for March 22-24 at The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
 
Stetson's participation in the CBI marks the first postseason event for the Hatters since the program was elevated to NCAA Division I status in 1971.
 
The 2021 CBI field includes Army, Bellarmine, Bowling Green, Bryant, Coastal Carolina, Longwood, Pepperdine and Stetson.
 
The Hatters will face Bowling Green in the first quarterfinal, 11:30 a.m., next Monday. The semifinals are schedule for Tuesday, March 23, with theCBI Bracket final set for Wednesday, March 24.
 
Information on fan attendance and potential ticket sales will be announced at a later date.
 
"This is a great opportunity for our program being the second straight year we have been invited to play in the CBI event," Jones said. "We view this as an incredible opportunity for our young team to experience the postseason and continue to practice and compete."
 
The Hatters enter their first-ever Division I postseason event with an 11-14 overall record. Stetson reached the ASUN Tournament semifinals earlier this month, losing to eventual champion Liberty, 77-64, on March 5 in Jacksonville.
 
Stetson is led by the guard trio of senior Christiaan Jones, freshman Chase Johnston and sophomore Rob Perry.
 
Johnston was recently named to the Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team, and was earlier this month chosen as the ASUN Freshman of the Year. Johnston is averaging 14.1 points and has already set a Stetson record with 78 3-pointers this season.
 
Perry is Stetson's leading scorer at 14.3 points per game, and has reached double figures 17 times in 25 games.
 
Jones was named to the ASUN's All-Tournament Team after averaging 19.5 points in Stetson's two tournament games. For the year, Jones is averaging 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
