Hatters Season Continues in the WBI

DeLand, Fla. -- For the 10th time in 11 years, the Stetson Hatters will play in the postseason.

Stetson has been selected to play in the 2021 Women's Basketball Invitational, a 3-game, 8-team tournament held this weekend in Frankfort, Ky.  The tournament will feature a both a championship and a consolation bracket guaranteeing three games for each team. Abilene Christian, Cleveland State, Florida International, Loyola Chicago, Manhattan, Northern Arizona, and Portland round out the field.
  
The Hatters (9-13) will face Loyola Chicago (11-13) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the WBI.  The Hatters will then play Cleveland State or Manhattan on Saturday, followed by a TBA opponent on Sunday.

This will mark the third time the Hatters have participated in the Postseason WBI.  In 2016, Stetson defeated McNeese State at home before falling to Louisiana on the road. In 2018, Stetson fell to South Alabama.

Stetson has also made two NCAA Tournament appearances and five WNIT appearances in the past 11 years.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the Hatters in scoring (15.5 ppg). Jamiya Turner (10.3 ppg) and Kiya Turner (10.1) are also averaging double figures.

Loyola Chicago enters the tournament 11-13 overall on the season. The Ramblers went 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the MVC tournament.

Friday will mark the second all-time meeting between the two schools, and the first meeting in 27 seasons.  The Ramblers defeated the Hatters 80-58 on Dec. 28, 1993 in Chicago.
